Feel like taking a break from your hectic schedule? Want to retreat somewhere private where you can listen to music, read, unwind and chillout? Well, you don���t have to go anywhere for that. You can do it right inside your home. Here���s how...It is all too easy to create a sanctuary from outside intrusions. Hunting for such a space, right inside your house, is part of the excitement.
So, go and find that special spot that is yours alone in your home. You���ll be surprised how easy it is to escape without going anywhere... Nooks and crannies built in under attics or a closet under a staircase will do the trick. And then go about building a retreat out of it... To escape to do what you really love.
A quiet reading space Fond of sitting down with a good book, a good drink, and an uninterrupted hour? Look around your home. Do you have a spare closet or quiet corner of a bedroom or study? That���s the place. Now lug that favourite chair of yours to this spot. Place it so that you can look out of a window. But be sure that the view is soothing and not distracting. Place a small table (small enough to hold just a book and a cup, so there���s no clutter) next to the comfortable chair. Next comes the footstool, and you know what to do with that! Now, close the door, turn off the phone, put on some soothing music, and read to your heart���s content! Soak in privacy Do you always jump in and out of the shower? Then you���re missing out on one of life���s most wonderful pleasures ��� soaking in a bath. So it���s time to plan. Pay special attention to the lighting in your bathroom ��� install a dimmer switch. Be sure that you have a radio or stereo close by... for that soothing and sensuous music. Set the mood with candles arranged around the tub, on the counters, or even on the floor. Go for them scented ones ��� but do not to mix too many fragrances. Have a bubble bath or bath oil ready to pour into the water. Get some thick and large towels .Place a luxurious terry or satin bathrobe within reach. And just sink in! It sure will be an experience you���re unlikely to forget. The hobbies corner Do you long for time and place to do some writing, or painting, or sketching? Your space should be a haven from outside distractions ��� something like a corner of the bedroom . Have a desk, comfortable chair, good light, and inspirational view. Be sure there is room to spread everything out. Provide space to set up an easel, arrange your paints, pastels, or pencils... A similar cosy corner is a perfect place to do needlework. And if you love to relax by building model boats, airplanes, or furniture, then your private sanctuary should be in the basement or garage. Arrange tools neatly, materials at hand, and who knows what you���ll make! The thinking thatch If you are a dreamer, and are happy to just sit back and contemplate, don���t think that this time is wasted. In fact, you���ll be refreshed and inspired to tackle whatever lies ahead So, surround yourself with things that are treasured and speak to your inner self. So now, you have what you always wanted ��� the perfect little retreat where you can enjoy, relax, recuperate, create, dream! Go ahead and indulge yourself. What your space needs... A private space doesn���t have to be small, but comfortable. It has to be furnished with your favourite things... and stuff which will bring back good memories. It needs to be far away from nagging distractions such as a ringing phone or a beeping computer. Everything that you feel you might want (water, pens, comforter ... ) must be within reaching out distance. Good music. It helps you ease up without you having to make a conscious effort. At the end, it is just a place to get away to do what you love! A few special things for your sanctuary... Some of your personal treasures... a collection of books, or a quilt handmade by your granny. Think of ways that you can create new memories. If you have kept away vases, artefacts for some special occasion, use them in your retreat. Scatter framed pictures of loved ones. There���s nothing as comforting as being surrounded by those you love. Add decorative elements to your space such as flowers. Be sure to remove anything from your chosen space that does not enrich the area, or contribute to its serenity. Like extra papers, or trash.
